Why it fits
Leafy greens are fragile, perishable and often trucked long distances. A unit in store shortens the chain to a few metres, and the produce can be sold fresh with a story customers can see.
What we know from Akar’s pilots
- Akar reported piloting at the HQ of Superindo, which it described as Indonesia's biggest supermarket chain with 220 stores, and being in discussion to pilot with minimarket chains Indomaret and Alfa Group (MIT Solve, May 2023).
- Some pilot off-takers were reported to save 2–3 employees' salaries on warehouse-related jobs and to stop ordering from farmers 1,500+ km away.
- Off-takers who resell produce share profit with Akar.
