Bayam Merah
Red amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor). One of the four greens on the original akar.farm homepage, grown 100% pesticide-free.
About the plant
Bayam merah is red amaranth, a leafy vegetable with leaves marked in deep red and purple. It is cooked like spinach in Indonesian dishes such as sayur bening, and young leaves are eaten as microgreens and in salads.
Growing it indoors
Amaranth loves warmth and grows fast, which suits tropical indoor farms. Growing under cover keeps the tender leaves free of the pests that often attack open-field bayam.
